Over 500 guests, businessmen, academics and government officials attended the gala evening for Chabad of Alaska’s new building.
Held in the Hilton of Anchorage, the event honored the brothers Jerry and Perry Green and member of Alaska house of representatives John Harris who were key in purchasing the new campus.
The event marked 60 years to Alaskan Airlines’ contribution to the Jewish people, and a salute to the legendary pilot Warren Metzger and his wife Marion, a flight attendant for the airline, who took part in Operation Magic Carpet, an operation between June 1949 and September 1950 that brought 49,000 Yemenite Jews to the new state of Israel.
An auction was successfully held by former Anchorage mayor Rick Mystrom.
Amongst the attendees: U.S. senator Lisa Murkowski, lieutenant Governor of Alaska Sean Parnell, state senators, assemblymen and Charles and Sarah Heath, parents of Governor and former vice-presidential nominee Sara Palin.
