Sacho Kapotas of Crown Heights has announced that beginning this week, they will only be selling Kapotas which are pre-checked for Shatnez in their store.
Responding to a Shatnez Lab notice that claimed they had found Shatnez in the collar of one of his Kapotas, owner Mendy Sacho sent numerous samples of his Kapotas to more than one Shatnez lab for testing, receiving a number of Kosher certifications, including Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba, a senior member of the Crown Heights Beis Din (Badatz CHK).
Still, Sacho has recently brought in trained Shatnez checkers from the Vaad L’Mishmeres Shatnez of Lakewood to professionally test his Kapotas for shatnez.
Sacho says he arranged this to “avoid any doubt of Shatnez, so our customers can have full confidence in the Kashrus of our Kapotas when shopping by us.”
Rabbi Moshe Bresler of Vaad L’Mishmeres Shatnez said that after checking all the Kapotas in stock at Sacho Kapotas, “many kapotehs have been verified to be free of shatnez.”
Kapotas which have been verified as Kosher by the Vaad L’Mishmeres Shatnez will bear a Kosher certification label, they notified.
“We maintain that garment wholesalers and retailers should offer for sale pre-tested garments,” said Rabbi Bresler. “It prevents the seller from ‘causing people to stumble’, and enables the buyer not having to run the risk of trying on shatnez, which is prohibited by many authorities.”
“We commend Sacho Clothiers for having adopted a new shatnez policy named, ‘zero tolerance policy,’ as only kapotehs that are pre-tested and verified to be free of shatnez are available for sale,” Rabbi Bresler said.
The shoulder pad can be made of wool and linen –
The labels shown are on a silk kapota. Why does a silk garment need shatnez certification. Even if there were linen in the kapota, there is no wool?
I’m proud to say thank you Mendy Sacho for being on top of things to ensure there is no problem anymore. I am very happy to read that Rabbi Bresler said many Kapotos are free of shatnez.
I know Mendy and have been buying from him for many years. The guy is mamish a tzadik, he will go out of his way for the next person.
Hatzlocah brother!
