Rabbi Schneur Z. Oirechman, the Chabad Shliach in Florida’s capital city of Tallahassee, delivered a powerful and positive message to Florida’s House of Representatives on Monday morning.
In the aftermath of the deadly anti-Semitic shooting attack at Chabad of Poway, California, Florida State Rep. Randy Fine and Speaker of the House José Oliva invited Rabbi Oirechman to deliver a special message before the day’s session began.
Rabbi Oirechman shared the Rebbe’s oft-repeated message that “a little light dispels much darkness,” and that darkness is merely the absence of light. He also shared the Rebbe’s message that our generation is the generation of redemption and that every mitzvah brings the redemption closer.
Rabbi Oirechman closed with a partial English recitation of the traditional “Av Harachamim” prayer.
Several State Representatives later thanked Rabbi Oirechman for what they described as a much-needed message.
One non-Jewish member approached the rabbi to inform him that had he jotted down the rabbi’s words on light overcoming darkness, and that he intended to use them.
The House Jewish Caucus took a photo with the shliach before he left the House floor.
