The 24 Teves farbrengen held on Dec. 31, 1980 marked the occasion of the Alter Rebbe’s yom hilulah. At that farbrengen, the Rebbe speaks about how the Alter Rebbe’s influence is still felt today and also asks the question which is more important: disseminating basic Judaism or teaching chasidus?
The new song “We Want Moshiach Now” is sung twice at the farbrengen with particular exuberance from the children in attendance.

It’s about time chassidim start focusing on the less glamorous but more critical work that the Rebbe wanted more than the glitzy but utterly secondarily work of FC.
Start spreading chassidus as that is what gives the Rebbe the most Nachas.
of course, friendship circle etc are more glamorous, but haikar chaser min hasefer – spreading chassidus. Why do so many focus on the secondary issues, when they should be focusing on spreading chassisus. of course humanistic pursuits are important, but why is it being done to the exclusion of our real job: spreading chassidus.

It’s about time the Heichal Menachem’s (and Maayon Yisrael etc – the programs to spread Chassidus) are recognized. They are doing the main shlichus that the Rebbe wants from us. Everything else is secondary. Would the real shliach please stand up!
