Rabbi Zev Volf Greenwald, a chossid who has educated hundreds of Jewish boys over the years, passed away on Thursday, 8 Nissan 5780.
He was 84 and has battled various illnesses until being infected by coronavirus.
As a child, he and his late brother R’ Tzvi Greenwald of Kfar Chabad were taken by their father to greet the Frierdiker Rebbe during his rare visit to the land of Israel.
The father requested a bracha for the education of his children which he received. He indeed merited to see his children continue in the way of Torah and even influence many others.
Rabbi Zev Greenwald, who lived in Kiryat Sanz in Jerusalem, served for many years as a dedicated teacher in the local Talmud Torah Toras Emes Chabad for boys. He was a yire shamayim and humble in his ways.
One of his former students recalls how Jerusalem was once undergoing a flood and the school building was filled with rising water. To his surprise, he found his teacher Rabbi Greenwald sitting at his desk with a Tehillim, feet soaked, waiting for the students to begin teaching.
He is survived his wife Mrs. Tova Greenwald, their children R’ Yitzchok Greenwald, Mrs. Miriam Bernstein, Mrs. Malka Har Zahav, R’ Shmuel Greenwald, Mrs. Adina Hollander, R’ Shimon Greenwald, R’ Moshe Greenwald and Mrs. Feiga Weinberg; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.
correction to the story
He was 84 years old, it cannot be his father took him to the Frierdiker Rebbe,
Since the Frierdiker Rebbe came to Eretz Yesreal in the year תרפ”ט that is about 91 years ago!!!
His father went alone to the Frierdiker Rebbe, and when the Frierdiker Rebbe asked his father what BEROCHA would you like, he replied, that my (future) children should be your Chasidim (Lubavitch)
A grandson of R Tzvi Z”l Greenwald
Rabbi Greenvald was my kita 7 Rebbe in Toras emes in 1989. I have such fond memories of a super teacher, and role model. Bde
