Rabbi Sholom Dov Ber Gourarie, a prominent Chabad businessman in South Africa and a Shliach, passed away Tuesday morning.
He was 77.
Born to the Lubavitch Mashpia Rabbi Moshe Gourarie in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, he learned in the local Chabad Yeshiva.
Later, like many of his young age, he traveled to New York to learn in the Central Chabad Yeshiva – 770 in Brooklyn.
After marrying his wife Winnie, the couple were sent on Shlichus to Cape Town in South Africa, where he served as a Rabbi and mentor. They later moved to Johannesburg.
He is survived by his wife, and children Yossi Gourarie – Postville, Iowa, Esti Fogel – Ottawa, Canada, Michoel Gourarie – Sydney, Australia, Avremi Gourarie – Crown Heights, and Chana Labkowsky – Sao Paulo, Brazil.
