R’ Mendel Gopin, a father and grandfather from Kfar Chabad, Israel, passed away on Sunday night, 25 Kislev, 5786.
He was 76.
He was born to Reb Boruch and Gneshe (Kaminetzki) Gopin, in Paris, following WWII. He was a descendent of Reb Mordechai, brother of the Alter Rebbe.
Raised in Kfar Chabad, he studied in Tomchei Temimim Lod under Reb Shlomo Chaim Kesselman. He came to the Rebbe in 1967 where he studied in 770 for many years.
He merited many Yechidus private meetings with the Rebbe, in which one of them the Rebbe exalted the great Zechus he has that both of his grandfathers were chassidim of the Rebbe Rashab and learned in Lubavitch.
He was known for his extensive knowledge in nigleh and Chassidus, and was particularly knowledgeable in the stories, history and genealogy of families of Chassidim.
He is survived by his children, Moshe Gopin, Melbourne, Australia, Zev Gopin, Baltimore, MD, Yossi Gopin, Hollywood FL, Baily Levy, Crown Heights, Shmuly Gopin, Sydney, Australia and Sarah Blumenfeld, Hollywood, FL.
He is also survived by his siblings, Risha Vilenkin – Kfar Chabad, Henya Schapiro – Crown Heights, Yosef Gopin – Kfar Chabad, Avraham Gopin – Crown Heights, Zelig Gopin – Kfar Chabad, Batya Kastel – Rechovot, Rivi Moskovitz – Kfar Chabad, Sterna Dobruskin – Kfar Chabad, Taibi Gurevitz – Kfar Chabad, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Levaya will take place on Tuesday in Kfar Chabad at 6 pm, with kevurah in Har Hazeisim.
