Hundreds of Lubavitch Chasidim from around the world are gathered in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan, to mark the yartzeit of R’ Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, the Rebbe’s father, on 20 Av.
A group from New York’s Bais Shmuel Chabad paid a special visit to the train station where Rabbi Levi Yitzchak arrived in Alma Ata on Tu B’shvat of 1940.
On Thursday, hundreds gathered for Shachris prayers at the local Ramada Hotel, which hosted a large convention of visitors.
Hundreds then joined for a special prayer service at Rabbi Levi Yitzchok’s Ohel. The crowd sang the niggunim of all the Chabad Rebbeim, followed by the reading of the Pan Klolli by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Gluckowsky, leader of the Chabad community in Rechovot, Israel and member of the Chabad Beis Din.
The day continued with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Mikvah, which will be built near the Ohel gravesite in Alma Ata.
