The family of Reb Shmuel Isaac Popack OBM, who excelled both in Torah learning and business, marked Tuesday the end of their Shiva mourning period.
Many members of the Crown Heights Jewish community came to his home on President Street to pay their respects. Among the dignitaries who joined them was Israel’s Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger who was in New York last week.
Sitting at the Shiva home, Rabbi Metzger shared words of comfort and consolation and praised the mourning son, R’ Yossi Popack, for his generosity to many local and overseas organizations and institutions.
The family gathered Tuesday for the Hakamas Matzeva on the grave in the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens, not far from the Rebbe’s Ohel resting place.
On the gravestone it was written that he was from the first bochurim in Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in the United States and always liked to learn and help others.
“We were very touched by the many stories, anecdotes, and memories, that we heard about our father and grandfather,” a family member told COLlive.com and said they will be opening a website to share memories and lessons from his life.
If you have a story or memory, you can email it to [email protected].
