perhaps if we didn’t need to take out a second mortgage to send our kids to day camp, there would be money left to tip the counselors

brazan teens who care only about cash yes they should be paid nicely by camp who have councellors on youth core but realize that they had the oppertunity to do shlichus with our children when we were younger we hoped to get appreciation and yes a tip but never would have the chutzpa to openly request it and put signs everywere i’t s a chilul hashem for everyone to see and think the councellers just rely on tips1
PS DO SHOW YOUR HAKORAS HATOV AND TIP TO YOUR ABILITY !

As a person who is involved with the camp, (to number 2) your 2nd morgage still does not cover pay for the staff.

show your appreciation!! They worked hard and they deserve it.

the parents, (with taking out a seconed mortgage) didnt cover close to the camp expenses let alone to pay for alot of counselores who didnt make on to youth core, so for 8 weekes they sweat to give campers a good time without getting paid and ppl say all they want is money?? WHAT NERVE! they worked hard and deserve at least a token of appreciation, and they definitely have the right to ask for just a tip! so TIP TIP TIP

I have worked in this camp and at least they don’t rip off your youth core but this summer I worked out of town and was dealing with kids who are for the most part better off then the people in crown heights and I walked off with almost nothing so it all depends on the year good luck to all counselors in all camps

This year has being one the worst (economical) since 1929.
The city of NY, does not want to help school or camps, get extra funds for the consulors or any important camp expenses.
Was not a single kid, left behind, and regardless of city position the camp got thebest of the best. (from consulors to trips) we understand parents lost their jobs and nobody said it is a must to tip the consulor. it is just a nice way to say thank you.

How many of you agree with me that whoever commented on this site that the counsellors should be tipped were either counsellors themselves or parents of counsellors.

My son did not get on youth core, and could have decides to do something else that would have paid him nicely, he decided he would stay and work the camp instead, knowing the camp could not afford to pay him much because they do not refuse a child regardless to payment. He went to work every day for 8 weeks, watched diligently over his bunk, gave two kids birthday parties out of his own funds(which he has little of) made sure kids had water on the hot days, even though he did not have any a couple of those… Read more »

Slow down! I don’t think any of the people who said they were not tipping meant in any way that the counsellors did not work hard and do not deserve tips. The issue is not being able to afford to give tips. Day camp is very expensive (even if it is justified) the fact is that it cost a fortune to send kids to camp, and when the average family has 3-6 kids in camps, do you have any idea how much that adds up to in tips, when each kid had 1-2 counsellors, waiters, bus staff etc. What people… Read more »

Re-read #21 it is a matter of money to all, yet there has to be heart, it does not matter how much, or how little, appreciation should be shown, and if a parent can’t give a tip imagine how great that counselor would feel if just that parent would swallow any pride and say to that young man, I know you did a good job, I appreciate it unfortunately my family is unable to give you a tip this year, but we wish you many reavealed blessings, or maybe write a letter to him or a letter recommending the young… Read more »

Since when does anybody need tips? The camp should pay them! If the camps don’t pay them, that is not my problem, they should not work for the camp. Same goes with waiters in restaurants etc.
