By professional photographer Mendel Meyers:
When it comes to shidduch portraits, are they necessary? Well, that question is controversial and honestly not relevant to this discussion.
However, if you’re giving your picture out anyway, why wouldn’t you want to look your best?
When you search on Google, the requirements for a picture for a job resume, the following points come up: Professional, Relevant, not from many years before, Headshot, Avoid props, Hair and make-up should be neutral and think “passport photo” not “Instagram selfie.”
Even more so when it comes to a shidduch picture, these points should be applied.
Many singles would love a good professional headshot, yet it’s not easy for them to arrange or financially feasible. Therefore, I will be taking professional headshots for singles with proceeds going to a Hachnasas Kallah.
After doing this in many neighborhoods, including Boro Park, Flatbush, Crown Heights and Monsey, I’ve B”H received an incredible response.
As Chavie C. from Monsey wrote, “Thank you so much! Pictures are great and the service was even greater! My friends and I were discussing how it was done in such a special and comfortable way! Thanks again!”
Or as Deena from Flatbush so eloquently put it, “I just wanted to say thank you so much for a wonderful experience today. Shidduchim is a long and drawn-out process for some and there are many small things that really help! Thank you for making a big headache into something so simple and straightforward. Thank you for your time, effort, energy, positive comments, for caring and for giving us your individualized attention.”
Sara P. from Crown Heights sent, “Just want to really thank you for your kindness! The girls came back and felt treated out! When we saw that COLlive article I was really taken by that. Shidduchim are hard and everyone ends up feeling pretty humbled by the experience and here is someone giving people dignity in the experience. The pictures are so beautiful. Thank you so much.”
I can go on and on. After receiving tens of emails with such heartwarming feedback I have decided to do this again. I will iyh be taking shidduch portraits this Sunday for a nominal fee of $25 towards KSCVK, a Hachnasas Kallah. There will be separate times for both girls and boys.
Boys, 21 and up: Sunday, December 20. 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Girls, 19 and up: Sunday, December 20. 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Advance registration is required at mendelmeyers.com/headshots

Nice to see someone doing something from the goodness of his heart. Many of us have ideas but for someone to act soon it, now that’s a chidush! Hatzlacha to all the boys and girls that need shidduchim!
Thank you for wording this offer in a sensitive and respectful way. Hashem should bless you and your family.
I like that it is for boys and girls!!!
Not just girls.
As a shadchan, I can tell you that a good picture on the profile is worth a lot. I had a mother say no to a girl even before she read the profile because she didn’t like the picture. I told the girl to take advantage of Mendel’s offer (the last time he did it) and she did. I sent her new picture to the boys mother and she asked for the profile. She had no clue that she said no to the same girl when she saw the original picture. This shows how important a good picture is. Thank… Read more »
