Just ahead of the Pesach holiday, the NYPD has a request for all residents who will be burning their Chometz at various locations in Crown Heights.
The NYPD 71st Precinct has warned that residents should not burn their Chometz in plastic bags.
“Please be aware not to burn plastic bags,” Sergeant Mike Baratta of the 71st Precinct told COLlive. “The large quantity of burning plastic causes toxic smoke to fill the area, and is not healthy for residents,” he cautioned.
Instead of burning plastic bags, Baratta says, “residents should use paper bags, or should remove the chometz from the bags before throwing it into the fire.”
The CHJCC and the gabbaim of 770 have ordered a container to be set up in front of 770 for burning the Chametz for Friday morning beginning at 6 AM.

Many thanks to NYPD community affairs for their help.
This year, the burning of the Chometz will take place on Friday morning, before 11:50 AM in New York.
But literally every bedikas chometz kit uses plastic bags…. ridiculous ask…
They should go back to selling the set in a paper bag like they used to. I take a small brown paper bag and use that. They should also stop selling those little pieces of chometz in plastic. Use paper instead. It’s not that complicated. The fumes from the plastic are dangerous.
