An NYPD officer was attacked with a meat cleaver in Midtown on Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. on 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue after the officer and his partner were called to the scene for a report of a man with a meat cleaver.
CBS2’s Christine Sloan reported the suspect went after the officer with a meat cleaver and slashed him, leaving him with a laceration wound to the head.
The suspect was then shot.
A second officer suffered a graze wound to the back. It is not known if the second officer suffered the injury from the meat cleaver or a gun shot.
There is no word on the condition of the suspect.
All three were taken to Bellevue Hospital. There is no word on the conditions of the officers and suspect.
A witness said he heard multiple gunshots.
Tourists are being told to stay off the sidewalk and everyone is being told to stay away from the scene.
Several streets in the Madison Square Garden area are currently closed.
