New York City’s mayoral primary will be be decided by a ranked choice count after no Democrat received a majority of the vote.
Self-described Democratic Socialist state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani held the lead over former Governor Andrew Cuomo and the rest of the crowded field in New York City’s mayoral primary.
Mamdani was several points shy of the 50% threshold needed to win outright.
Citywide polls officially closed at 9 p.m. EST. Due to New York’s ranked-choice voting system, a clear winner could only be determined on Election Day if a candidate won over 50 percent of the “first choice” votes – meaning they were ranked in the top spot for more than half of voters.
In absence of that kind of victory, the ranked-choice system is triggered, which kicks off a process that will not yield a winner until at least July 1, when the tallying of the second-through-fifth place votes will take place.
The shocking rise of Mamdani, a democratic socialist and pro-Palestinian activist, has left many Jewish residents dismayed.
“This is one of the saddest days in recent New York political history,” said Yaacov Behrman of Crown Heights United political action committee, who led a campaign to get out the vote in the neighborhood. “The Democratic Party has just nominated a mayoral candidate who refuses to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, and wouldn’t condemn the phrase ‘globalize the intifada.’ Antisemitism has officially gone mainstream in New York.”
Current New York City Mayor Eric Adams will run in the general election this November as an Independent. Adams insiders were “ecstatic” Tuesday night as the votes rolled in for socialist hopeful Zohran Mamdani, the NY Post reported.
One insider said they felt “very good” about Adams chances to retake City Hall for his independent bid come the general election.
Curtis Sliwa has won the Republican primary for New York City mayor.
Sliwa, who founded the nonprofit Guardian Angels, ran unopposed. He ran for mayor in 2021 and lost to current Mayor Eric Adams.

We don’t make up 50% of the city, so your question makes no sense.
A vote for Curtis is a vote against Adams, and basically a vote for Mamdani.

Refused to show up for Cuomo en mass and thus effectively helped elect Mamdani. We didn’t clearly understand the race was only going to be between Cuomo and Mamdani. That was the only real choices in this election!
Some areas coumou won in was borough park, east flatbush and midwood area and mamdani won the crown heights area .

In a predominantly democratic city it does not make sense to change to Republican and yesterday was a perfect example. You will always be able to vote in the general election but when the Primary election is so pivotal you have no influence when as we see was so needed yesterday.

We need to all get behind the one person who has the best chance of defeating Mamdani. As much as I like Sliwa and hope he wins, he just doesn’t stand a chance. If instead of voting for Sliwa we all banded together and voted for Adams, us plus the large amount of moderates in New York, we can defeat Mamdani.
Excellent that cuomo lost. Sliwa would be the best mayor!

because this is a primary and you live in a blue state. see you at the general election. also: you should get changed to be registered as democrats as long as you live in a blue state.
The FJCC has been telling people to register Democratic even if you’re a Republican so you can vote in the primaries in order to vote for the best candidate and then in the general election you can vote as you wish. You can change your political party through the FJCC. Quite a few people made the same mistake. It’s imperative to be ready and understand the voting process in NY.

In Boro Park, I was unable to vote for the Mayor because I am a registered Republican, so they provided me with a ballot for Republican candidates.

If the antisemite actually does win in NYC, the quality of life for Jews will dramatically be impacted. We will start being truly marginalized. It might be a glimpse of the future.

He stood up against the Democratic party and weathered their attacks against him. He spoke up about the problems with illegal migrants and is cooperating with the federal government to address the issue. He is no Rudy Giuliani but he is no crazy lib.
The best we can and should do is vote for Adams. He can get the religious Jewish vote along with the black vote. Also the average normal regular voters. Sliva has no chance.

The election was Chof Ches Sivan. Is this lost on anyone? This is the 86th year of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s arrival in America. The main golus in mitzrayim was 86 years. This was the 84th anniversary of the Rebbe’s arrival. The golus (Bavel) started 2 years early. This one ends at least 2 years early.
