As Pesach approaches, a specific variation of Coca-Cola is once again drawing attention beyond the kosher market, with shoppers across the United States seeking out bottles marked by their distinctive yellow caps.
The product, labeled by the OU as “Kosher for Passover,” appears each year for a limited time and has developed a broader following among consumers who are not observing the holiday but prefer its formulation.
At the center of the demand is a change in ingredients. Standard U.S. Coca-Cola is typically sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. For Pesach, the company produces a version made with cane sugar to comply with the practice of Ashkenazi Jews, who avoid corn and legumes.
The New York Post described the Pesach version as a “gold standard” among soft drinks for some consumers, pointing to the use of real sugar as the key factor driving demand.
Some consumers say the cane sugar formula produces a noticeably different taste, often described as cleaner and less syrupy, with a sharper sweetness and more pronounced carbonation.
The seasonal release has also been compared to so-called “Mexican Coke,” a cane sugar version sold year-round in glass bottles. That product is generally more expensive and less widely available, while the Pesach edition is distributed in standard plastic bottles at typical retail prices, making it more accessible for bulk purchase.
The origins of the Pesach certified Coca-Cola date back to 1935, when Rabbi Tuvia Geffen worked with the Atlanta-based company to adapt the formula for Pesach use.
The yellow-capped bottles are typically available only in the weeks leading up to Pesach, which begins this Wednesday night. Retailers often report increased demand during this period, with some shoppers purchasing in bulk before supplies run out.

It’s a little insane to me how many people around the world just drink soda so much. “Purchasing in bulk” implies that people drink this often? Your litteraly drinking chemicals straight out of a bottle.. I get it if you want to enjoy yourself and drink soda once in a while, but drinking it frequently seems a bit excessive to me..
Regardless of whether it contains corn syrup, “real” sugar, or an artificial sweetener… It is still absolutely unhealthy to consume. Try to list one health benefit of drinking soda.
It’s no wonder people have so many health issues regardless of the tremendous strides that have been made in medicine. It all starts with what we eat and drink.
Why would you want to poison yourself? I haven’t had a soft drink since 1997. I severely limit any processed foods. I’m the same size 32 waist at 50 as I was in Yeshiva. B”H no diabetes, healthy heart. Don’t poison yourself!
It’s the exact same as Mexican Coke (but Mexican tastes better because it’s in glass).
Kind of ridiculous tbh…
Coke has been a global staple for 100+ years. It might not be very healthy, but the fact of the matter is that it’s really good. There is no denying that. It’s iconic taste will always be on the palette of most people, even if it’s not the best health-wise.
