Rabbi Yisroel and Mushky Gordon have moved to Mammoth Lakes, CA this week, to establish the first Chabad Center in the area.
The Gordons will serve the Jewish needs of the local Jewish population as well as tourists to the area.
Mammoth is a ski resort town, which sits at 8,000 ft elevation. With a large amount of snowfall each year, it is known for its skiing. In the summer, it’s full of tourists who are biking or hiking in the beautiful mountains.
Rabbi Yisroel, who hails from Melbourne, Australia and Mushky, who grew up in New Haven, CT, will be providing kosher food, Shabbos minyanim, Torah classes and Jewish programming for local residents and the many frum tourists who visit from around the world.
The Gordons will be holding their first event this week, with a masquerade party and Megillah reading at Chabad.
The Gordons were hired by West Coast Head Shliach Rabbi Shlomo Cunin. Until now, Rabbi Mendel Cunin in Reno, Nevada (3 hours away) has been servicing the Jews of Mammoth Lakes, and the Gordons will be expanding his activities.
