Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara boarded a flight from Hungary to Washington DC earlier today.
Netanyahu is set to meet with President Donald Trump at 1 pm tomorrow at the White House. He is the first foreign leader to go to Washington to discuss the new “reciprocal tariffs” levied by the United States.
The Trump Administration plans to impose a 17 percent tariff on the Jewish State, despite the Israeli government’s announced elimination of all tariffs on American imports.
It is believed the US tariff is being levied in response to the continuation of an import tax on US-made vehicles.
In addition to tariffs, Netanyahu and Trump are expected to discuss the continuing efforts to return the hostages from Hamas captivity in Gaza.
Also on the agenda will be the issue of Israeli relations with Turkey – or more accurately, the lack thereof – and Turkey’s rising presence and influence in the Syrian Republic, which could pose a new threat to the Jewish State.
The two men are also expected to discuss the ongoing battle against the International Criminal Court at The Hague and, of course, Iran. While Netanyahu was in Budapest, Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban announced he was withdrawing his country from the ICC because, he said, the Court is no longer a neutral body, but instead has become politicized.
