Reb Nachum Markowitz is well-known for his kindness, showing Chesed all year round, but especially in the month of Tishrei. For over 40 years, he’s been behind the big Kidushim and food distributions during this festive time.
Right after Yom Kippur, thousands of people were seen from 770 Eastern Parkway, reaching past the Jewish Children’s Museum, all there to break their fast with food sponsored by OK Kosher certification.
COLlive caught up with Markowitz to chat about what’s being prepared for Sukkos and Simchas Torah. Trucks loaded with food and drinks are a big sign that Markowitz’s events are right around the corner. The events are principally sponsored by philanthropists Rabbi Yitzchok and Rebbetzin Shaindel Raitport, who dedicate the grand Kidushim in memory of their son, Shalom Dov Ber, who passed away suddenly when returning from Tahalucha.
Noted figures Yerachmiel and Rivkah Jacobson, the Drizin Family, and others generously partner with Markowitz to ensure the success of the Kidushim. The Kidushim received encouragement and blessings from the Rebbe and were admired by Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka.
And then there’s the food. Lots of it. Tons of meat, fish, Mezonos, assorted salads and fresh fruit. But what makes it special is the touch Reb Nachum adds to everything. Keep an eye out for more updates on this Crown Heights favorite during Yom Tov.
