I called the perp’s parents directly. My tone was that I was not happy but that I was calling b/c I mainly just wanted for them to know. I was not demanding or confrontational — more like informing. (This was for an incident/attack during the school day that resulted in my child receiving a laceration and, as a result, needing to see a doctor afterward. My child had done absolutely nothing to provoke this, EVER, as corroborated by several kids who were there and who were also in these two kids’ class over the course of the year. No one… Read more »

You were so right for calling the parents.
What chutzpah of them to complain to the school and certainly
wrong of the school to scold you.
B”H its over.

there’s absolutely nothing wrong, and everything right, with letting parents know how their son is (mis)behaving.

Are the local schools implementing bullying strategies? I am sure Darchai and the smaller schools are. But I doubt the larger schools are doing anything. Half the time it is the teacher that is the biggest bully.

Thank you for the important message

I’m not sure why the argument about the success rate of anti-bullying programs is a good one. If we could prevent 30-40% of infant fatalities, or murders, wouldn’t we do everything possible to do that? 30-40% is still close to half the bullying, it’s a large percentage. “We cant’t solve it or even most of it, so why even try?”…such a weird argument.

Dr Novick is responding to someone who claimed that the school is not doing anything about bullying. She argues that the school is legally required to keep their bullying response confidential and they may be doing a lot that you don’t know about. She explains that the fact that there is bullying doesn’t prove that the school isn’t acting. She quotes the statistics to demonstrate that even if they are implementing bullying programs there still would be bullying..
