Campus Machon Chamesh is home to the premier Jewish women’s University of Russia, one of the most prestigious institutions in the Chabad educational empire built up in Moscow, under the direction of Rabbi Berel Lazar.
This university is situated in a strategic area. On the one hand, it is situated in Moscow, a big and bustling city. On the other hand, the campus is surrounded by beautiful greenery and lakes. The campus itself blends in beautifully with its surroundings, charmingly built, and recently renovated.
Machon Chamesh University’s mission is to serve Jewish girls who desire to live and thrive in a Torah environment, as well as receive a degree, at the end of their studies. Students at the university come from all over Russia; many of them arriving with no understanding of Judaism, or what it means to them.
The shluchim here have sown and tilled, and have caused a revolution to help reverse this trend.
Many hundreds of the alumni of the “Machon” (as it is commonly called) who live in far corners of Russia, or throughout the world, are now able to be a successful part of the Jewish community. They have been given the tools to build strong Jewish homes. Tens of them have even become shluchos in Russian speaking communities, mainly throughout Russia.
One of the most integral and successful parts of this magnificent establishment is the young shluchos who commit to a year of shlichus, and dedicate themselves wholly to the Machon and its students.
During the current academic year, the Machon started a new, exciting, seminary beis program, for Lubavitcher girls, called “Seminary Shlichus”.
The program, directed by Rabbi Avraham Bekerman, includes classes on different topics in yiddishkeit- such as halacha, chassidus, and Bayis Yehudi, subjects applicable to a Jew’s everyday life, given by the best lecturers in Moscow, including Mrs. Rivky Wilansky, Mrs. Aidy Kuravsky, Mrs. Sashi Fridman, Rabbi Levi Y. Holzman, Rabbi Avrohom Zaks, Rabbi Yisroel Barenbaum, and Rabbi Moshe Rochlin. There are also courses offered to the students of Seminary Shlichus in financing, communication, and PR. The whole package is a preparation for life, with the means to manage wherever one might find themselves on shlichus in the future.
The shluchos live on campus, in the dorm, and are constantly busy with real, actual shlichus work. They work with the students of the Machon, connecting with them on a personal level, and becoming like their sisters/mashpios- physically and spiritually.
The results and subsequent reward are greater than can be imagined.
First Impression
By Yael Rochlin, Brocha Gleyzer and Rikki Ezagui – current shluchos.
Shlichus in Moscow can be compared to no other. It is an incredible learning and growing experience, with shluchim who constantly try and make it more comfortable and conducive.
It’s a pleasure to work with the girls. Whether it is learning with them or having them join bi-weekly programs, it is an incredible opportunity to walk with them through their journey, helping them get closer to yiddishkiet.
The learning seminary offers is one of the top. Whether it is Bayis Yehudi, sichos, Tanach or maimarim the classes are stimulating and interactive. The teachers care about you in and out of the classroom. They take great lengths to make sure the material is u understood on an intellectual and practical level.
Moscow is a beautiful city itself, Yet at the same time, the center is not far from our location in Park Sokolniki.
If this is something that you are interested and can see yourself doing it is truly an experience of a lifetime.
