Mrs. Miriam Althaus, a Shlucha, iconic Kallah teacher and beloved mother and grandmother from Melbourne, Australia, passed away on Shabbos, 11 Av, 5783.
She was 81.
Miriam was a Shlucha of the Rebbe, a known iconic kallah teacher and mashpia in Melbourne, Australia. She served on the Melbourne Kashrus committee for many years and hosted hundreds of bochurim from Yeshiva Gedolah and guests from all over the world.
Miriam taught for decades in Beth Rivkah, Ohel Chana, Merkos Seminary, and many more institutions in Melbourne.
She was a baalas tzedaka and patiently listened to all people with love and care. She was the home away from home for hundreds of students who ate in her home.
She spoke only well of everyone without exception, an icon of chessed and Torah. She was a wonderful Torah teacher to hundreds of girls and women.
Miriam was the wife of Reb Binyomin Althaus, mother of Sarahleh, Shimi, Pini and Nechama.
She was the beloved mother in law to Ron, Shternie and Sari. Also the mother in law of the late Ronny Tatarka obm.
She was a grandmother and great grandmother and aunt. She was a “mother figure” to so many women in the community especially for Kollel couples spanning many decades.
Her presence will be sorely missed by so many across the globe that came in to her home or classes.
The Levaya will take place at 11:30 Am Sunday morning Australian time, 9:30 PM ET, in Australia.

Mrs Althaus was a true example of an Eishes Chayil. Miriam was a dignified women of elegance and Chein giving of herself tirelessly to chinuch and teaching countless brides the laws of Taharas Hamishpacha. It is impossible to put into words the impact that this woman had on the Jewish community. In Melbourne specifically her passing will be painfully felt, but knowing how many bochurim , seminary girls and kollel couples from around the world she taught and warmly welcomed into her home this loss is much wider than we can imagine. She also taught Kallahs for whom her classes were their only “formal” Jewish education as well as the hundreds of frum Kallahs she taught. She welcomed us to her house when we arrived to Melbourne and since than always when we happened to to meet, she was happy to see us and showed a genuine interest in our life
