Mrs. Chaya Motchkin, beloved mother and grandmother living in Crown Heights, passed away on the eve of Yud Aleph Nissan 5780.
She was 75.
She was born in 1945 in Tashkent, to the Gaon and Chossid R’ Zalmen Leib Estulin and his wife Reizel (Brod). As a young girl living in Communist Russia, she risked her life to keep Shabbos, and to support the efforts of her parents in keeping Yiddishkeit alive.
In 1967, she married R’ Chaim Yosef Motchkin, a man known for his legendary mesiras nefesh and ahavas yisroel for his fellow Jews in Russia. The son of the Mashpia R’ Peretz Mochkin, he helped many Jews to escape Russia. He passed away on Yud Alef Elul, 2003.
She was a loving, gracious, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children Mrs. Sara Motchkin-Kanevsky – Crown Heights; Mrs. Chanie Garelik – Crown Heights, and Mrs. Dinie Cohen – Sacramento, California; and grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings Mrs. Gisa Freedland – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, Rabbi Naftoli Estulin – Los Angeles, California; and R’ Dovid Estulin – Crown Heights.
The family asked to express their gratitude for the dedication and sensitivity shown by the members of Hatzalah and the Chevra Kadisha.

Mrs. Motchkin had grace, sensitivity and eidelkeit.
She was proud and a devoted wife to her illustrious husband and mother to her beautiful daughters.
She will be remembered for her kindness.
She will be missed.
