As in every synagogue around the world, the Marina Roscha Synagogue and Jewish Community Center in Moscow had a large Menorah which was kindled every day of Chanukah.
This year, however, the shul’s gabboim decided to add excitement to the daily ritual.
A marketing campaign around the Russian capital invited locals to the lighting ceremony which was accompanied by Jewish music and delicious jelly donuts.
Honored with lighting were prominent community members, including Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, Israel’s Ambassador to Russia Zvi Heifetz and Israel’s consul in Russia Yaakov Rosh.
Following the daily davening of Mincha, candles of the Menorah were lit followed by joyous singing.
This was one of the many activities done by the central shul to expand its services which include minyanim, Torah classes and humanitarian assistance.
