Brisbane Jews Celebrate Outdoors

As in previous years, “Chanukah in the City”, held in the heart of the Australia’s “New World City” Brisbane, was met with a resounding success.

Close to 1000 people from all walks of life converged onto Reddacliff Place in the Brisbane CBD for an evening of light, warmth, entertainment, and great food.

The MC of the event was Jason Steinberg, President of the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies, who praised Chabad for the wonderful work they perform in Brisbane and throughout the world.

Among the guests were local and state politicians, who addressed the crowd with words of support for the event and the Jewish community.

The music on the night, provided by internationally acclaimed band Niggun Collective, based in Israel, was electrifying, drawing many people from the audience to join lively dancing in front of the stage.

A vibrant interactive children’s show was also provided by Moshe Feiglin, band leader of Niggun Collective.

The 12 special Torah Pesukim (verses) were recited word by word by the children, and followed enthusiastically by the crowd.

The highlight of the evening was the kindling of the majestic and beautifully designed 6-metre Menorah by communal stalwart John Goldman OAM in recognition of his over 40 years of dedicated communal service.

The evening concluded with a sensational acrobatic show by the African Zymboyz, who thrilled the audience with their amazing talent and humor.

“Chanukah in the City” which was organized by Chabad Brisbane, as one of its many exciting and enriching programs offered to the Brisbane community and regions beyond.

Chabad Brisbane thanks the Brisbane City Council and the Queensland State Government, along with communal individuals and businesses, for their generous support of this event.
