The images of violence from three days of Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip are difficult for local Palestinians to watch, especially people like Aladein Odeh who have family living in the area.
“It’s upsetting to hear about innocent people being killed for no reason, cause certain terrorist group is throwing rockets, kill one person, they’ve got to kill 300 to make up for that one, is not right, they’re innocent people being killed.”
Rabbi Levi Klein with the Chabad Center for Jewish Life has family living in Israel and also says it is hard watching innocent people being harmed, but he says Israel is only acting in response to violence from Hamas.
“It’s really a defensive attack, Israel has been bombarded with thousands of missiles coming from Gaza, tried to stop it anyway possible there was even an agreed upon ceasefire, obviously it’s not holding.”
Rabbi Klein says he believes this time it’s a one way fight, he says Israel isn’t looking to gain anything but peace.
“Israel is saying we will stop when they will stop, so that’s clearly what Israel says, Israel has no interest in reoccupying Gaza what they want is the missiles to stop so that’s the recipe for this to end.”
But Odeh says it goes much deeper than the occupation OF Gaza, he says Palestine is still left in the hands of Israelis, limiting their freedom to live their lives.
“They build a big wall and say it’s for their safety, it’s bigger than the Berlin Wall, goes all around the West Bank, and they say it’s for their safety but they cage us in like animals.”
The Palestinians are their own worst enemies. They have no gumptiom. They should have ousted the Hamas a long time ago. Hamas has brought them grief, dispair and destruction. What? Does the world really expect Israel to not defend itself and its citizens from an enemy that seeks it’s total destruction?
