Should Lubavitchers Join Daf Yomi?

Stump the Rabbi: What was the opinion of the Rebbe Rayatz when Daf Yomi was first introduced, how did the Rebbe respond to those making a siyum and should Lubavitchers today join the daily Gemara study? Video

Daf yomi changed my life, all the Rebbe’s Sichos are based on Ghemore
If we want to understand better the Rebbe’s Torah we need to learn Shad

I highly recommend you to learn daf Yomi
After 17 years of learning it ( in Bava Basra will be iyh 3 cicles ),I can tell you that is a geshmak and allows you to learn the Rambam 3 perakim a day more quickly and understanding almost everything

Should Lubavitchers Join Daf Yomi? How can it be even a question, joining all Klal Yisroel in learning Torah? We are all one, and the more we feel and behave this way the better we are in Eyes of Rebono Shel Olam. Am Echod

How I understand it, is that daf yomi should not be at the expense of not learning Rambam but still Gemoro (in some format)you must learn every day. The Rebbe said that chitas and Rambam is IN ADDITION to ones daily shiurim of nigleh and chasidus (and can’t replace it). Correct?

In addition to the importance of learning Gemmorah

May I let you know, if you truly want to understand the fascinating biurim and insights of all of our Rebbes Torah in Maamarei Chazal explained davka in Maamarei Chassidus as in Likutei Torah Torah Ohr etc.
you must first know the pshat of the Gemmorah and Chazal, of course so for Likutei Sichos Igros etc.

A day off

Was it to the anash group in Melbourne or Montreal whom the Rebbe suggested they study daf yomi a day off of the cycle?

Not quite.

Not quite.

It was a previous Rov in Melbourne (Rav Ashkenazi, mainly Hungarian Charedi community) who said that Chas VeShalom someone should suspect him of learning Daf HaYomi … so he is always one daf ahead or behind 🙂

Needless to say, the Rebbe demanded many times that Chassidim finish every week ALL of the Maamorim of the Chassidishe Parsha, using stronger Leshonos than re: Rambam.

Baruch Hashem I was mesayim Shas for my first time joining the Daf Yomi and have started the new cycle with Gemorah Brachos yesterday. I find the combination of learning Rambam and going through Shas is a wonderful combination. I personally found learning Gemorah somewhat boring and avoided learning any Gemarah for many years until I decided to start learning Daf Yomi. My Avodas Hashem and Yiras Shomayim has been enhanced by my undertaking Daf Yomi in addition to Chitas & Rambam and Chassidus. We live in a time of so many nisyonas and to be osek in Limud HaTorah… Read more »

Thank you for your very appropriate response Rabbi Paltiel. However, I find the question rather silly. Daf yomi is just a shiur in Torah. And, as R’ Paltiel pointed out, many in our community could gain to try and cover more nigleh. I marvel at the snide remarks Chabad chassidim make at daf yomi. I sense a bit of jealousy or justification for not being able to learn it. But basically the reason there is any opposition to what is just a good initiative: daf yomi has become part of the litvish “culture.” Therefore, those who still enjoy living in… Read more »
