question - did she survive the war?
May 29, 2014 8:16 pm

This must be heartbreaking for the families. So sorry

Had a question: so is everything you learned about Asna Mera true or not? Did she survive the war and escaped to the forests and survived there or is it all not true?

im confused

@ #19
Stockholm syndrome? either he is legit or a fake, but he cannot be a “mentchlich” fake

in the name of a number of Chanowitz family members, I would like to clarify a few points:

1. Sholom Ber/ Shlomo Yutel was a perfect gentleman. He was refined, kind, respectful and caring in all ways. Furthermore, though he was offered free tickets, money and presents, he refused them all and returned everything. He would not hear of anybody paying for his ticket. 2. We do not feel that he was malicious at all! He may have been confused, but in his mind he was doing something good. 3. He revealed to us some family history information that we never knew. All of our research into family trees never produced some of the details that he provided.… Read more »

reflection of the times
May 25, 2014 1:12 am

This is a reflection of this generation. We do not know who are our ‘cousins’ and who are not. It is getting more confusing to know who is really Jewish and who is not – with people believing that improper conversions are perfectly okay and people are our ‘cousins; (Jewish) when they are not. We should be reunited with all our real cousins past and present with Moshiach now!

Be VERY wary of them. My grandfather was contacted by a con artist asking for 5k to help Someone who posed as me, his grandson. Be very careful

Makes it even harder ...

… When I try to make contact with newly-found cousins, this kind of fraud makes them even more unlikely to believe me. How can I prove I’m legit?

Scientific evidence

Easy enough these days to get DNA samples to see if there is a familial match.

Probably this guy collected info from the people that still lives in Russia

They must open a felony case in Israel ….no one can speculate on the memories…..
All holocaust stories are almost the same , all Jewry life in the Russia was the same ….

FOR THE RECORD!

When this problem became known to me, I contacted my sources in our Chabad Brotherhood. I let them know what the problem was and asked to verify if he exists? This morning I got proven reports that he is certifiable and people should not have contact with him. I pity this fellow. We in the Chanowitz family are moving on! That said; I would have liked the story to be true, it is everyone’s fantasy who’s family lost members in the Holocaust. To be continued, have a Great Shabbos.

Question
May 23, 2014 3:51 pm

Wouldn’t it be easy to investigate him a little more and see what his name and background really is?

Great work Ami
May 23, 2014 3:26 pm

I am so impressed with the magazine. The writing is exceptional. The work is so meaningful. Ami helped not only two families but possibly others who could be vulnerable. Well done. Very well done.

we still do not know conclusively that what he said about our family is not true. Perhaps Ami magazine should have done more research The other family mentioned in Ami Magazine is convinced that he was not truthful about the story that he gave them I imagine that he did grow up in Russia and did have a mother. His (step) mother may have been Asna Mera but it may not have been I would be inclined to believe him even though we still have unanswered questions. The problem is that when someone tells a story that did not happen,… Read more »

May 23, 2014 1:49 pm

He is probably employed by the genealogy website, proving its efficacy, and thus boosting its ratings.

Just a hypothesis…
