From Adai Ad’s “Am I ready for marriage?” series:
As you prepare for a successful marriage, it is important to understand how past trauma can impact your future relationship and what you can do to set yourself up for success.
Yehuda (Hudi) Kowalsky, LMHC will address how all sorts of trauma* – from “little t” traumas to “big T” of life-threatening events – leave their legacy through enduring beliefs and patterns of behavior. This can make it more difficult to maintain genuinely loving and authentic relationships. Additionally, trauma might lead someone to choose unhealthy partners.
The trauma doesn’t have to define you. With the right support, the marriage can be a strong and healthy one.
He will also address how to respond to a shiduch suggestion with someone who went through a trauma.
(*Trauma might include: Intergenerational, Financial, Bullying/Anti-Semitism, Veterans (esp. IDF), Divorce, Death/ Grief & Bereavement Issues, Previous Hospitalized (Psych), Foster/Adoptions, natural disasters and other situations.)
