In honor of the new school year in Uzbekistan, business mogul and philanthropist Mr. Lev Leviev sent a gift of 60 laptops to school children in Uzbekistan.
Leviev was born and raised in Uzbekistan and lived there until the age of 15 when his family emigrated to Israel.
As President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the C.I.S. and World Bukharian Jewish Congress. Mr. Leviev continues to invest heavily in the growth of Jewish communities through the Former Soviet Union and especially in his homeland of Uzbekistan, as well as the large Bukharian Jewish communities in Queens, NY and in Israel.
The gift was made via the Global Jewish Assistance and Relief Network under the leadership of Rabbi Eliezer (Lazer) Avtzon.
Global Jewish Assistance is a proud partner and supporter of the World Bukharian Jewish Congress’s work in Uzbekistan. At the request of Mr. Leviev, recently provided a donation of more than $400,000 worth of masks to the Government of Uzbekistan as they fight Covid-19.
The Government of Uzbekistan was very thankful for the masks and kindly asked for the possibility of continuing cooperation on obtaining a grant of computers as they seek to invest in the education of their students.
Upon hearing of their request, Leviev readily agreed to sponsor the first set of 60 chrome books to be donated to the schools of Uzbekistan.
In the presence of his daughter Chagit Sofiev Leviev and her husband Gavriel Sofiev, the 60 chrome books were delivered to the Consulate of Uzbekistan who will be shipping them next week.
The Consul General, Mr. Ikramov Kamol Ravshanbekovich thanked Mr. Lev Leviev and his family for this meaningful donation and expressed how important it will be for the future generation of Uzbek students.
On behalf of her father, Chagit Sofiev Leviev expressed her family’s love and appreciation of the Uzbek people and their rich culture which they continue to celebrate at their homes in Israel and America, and further expressed her father’s strong belief that the best investment one can make is in the field of education, and how proud he is to give back to his country and people with this gift.
The Consul General then presented special gifts to the Sofiev family and to Rabbi Avtzon, and invited them to come visit in Uzbekistan soon.
