Despite an intense heat wave, close to 300 people joined in Chabad of Baka’s Lag B’Omer Parade and Fun Festival at Jerusalem’s First Station.
The energy of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai was felt, as children of various backgrounds recited the 12 pesukim in unison and marched with mitzvah flags through the streets of Jerusalem.
A circus entertainer wowed the crowd with his talent, engaging children and parents in his act. The children of the Chabad of Baka community played an integral part in the program. Those in the Interactive Mitzvah Club performed on stage, and a talented group of boys led the parade with their drumming.
A special surprise awaited participants, immediately following the parade. In addition to receiving a beautifully illustrated Chumash, each child was treated to thrilling rides. Pita making drew young and old and proved to be both tasty and fun.
A group of girls from Machon Shoshanat Yerushalayim seminary volunteered as counselors, having returned just a few hours before from Meron.
Children in the Friendship Circle of South Jerusalem, directed by Chabad of Baka, joined in the festivities. A spirit of unity and inclusion was enjoyed by all.
One of the mothers in the Friendship Circle, watching her children glowing with joy, enthused, “We haven’t had such a good time in a while!”
