15 members of the frum Jewish community in Los Angeles County were infected by a measles outbreak despite California enacting a strict vaccine law.
California is now one of three states that forbid children from opting out of vaccines because of religious or personal beliefs, according to the LA Times.
Dr. Jeffrey Gunzenhauser, interim health officer for the L.A. County Department of Public Health, told the newspaper that at least 15 of the 18 L.A. County patients either knew one another or had a clear social connection.
None of the 18 could provide proof of vaccination, he said.
County health officials confirmed to Bikur Cholim in L.A.’s Beverly Grove neighborhood that a measles outbreak was affecting the county’s Orthodox Jewish community.
Bikur Cholim head Rabbi Hershy Ten convened a panel last week to discuss steps that Jewish day schools and synagogues could take to stem the outbreak and ensure unvaccinated children are immunized.
“Measles is very, very serious,” he told the LA Times. “Those children are at risk and they put other children at risk.”
15 people die every hour worldwide from measles, according to the World Health Organization, and it is one of the most contagious viruses. Infected people develop a rash that can take weeks to show up, but they can transmit the virus to others before that.
Children are supposed to receive two vaccines to protect against measles before they start kindergarten.

Eating healthy saved my life. It has nothing to do with goyish. There r so many diseases that nebach….. our children suffer from bc of unhealthy eating. Most of the healthy ideas go along with what The Rambam says. I personally know someone the REBBE sent to a “health” Dr. Can chas v’sholom our Rebbeim who did spas and went to healthy clinics be following the goyim. It’s all balance. I vaccinate but healthy eating has changed any of my health problems. Don’t discourage anyone from getting better with your misguided opinions.

If measles is so dangerous to adults why was there not one adverse report when 200 people got it at Disneyland or the last outbreak? Your statistics come from countries where people die everyday from the common cold.

… may be relatively harmless in childhood, but is very dangerous to adults. Before the measles vaccine adults didn’t have to worry as much because they all had measles as kids. Back when I was a child in the early 50’s it was common for parents to send their kids to go get in bed with neighbor kids who had any of the “childhood diseases” (measles, mumps, chickenpox, german measles, NOT polio) so the child would get it as a child and therefore be immune as an adult.
Maybe you can tell as how many of 18 people were not vacsinated or if they were why they got it ?

The only reason Polio was eradicated mostly is because of BH a world wide effort including march of dimes, World Healh Organization..etc.. through VACCINATION to eradicate it. You endanger society by not vaccinating you children including unborn children as well.

The cdc says the fatality rate of measles is 0.2 percent. For 15 people to die in one hour would mean there were 7500 cases of measles in that hour. L.a. only has twenty so calm down

Kids who get measles are at serious risk of developing SSPE infections years later. SSPE causes brain damage and is fatal. 1) If a pregnant teacher is fully vaccinated with two MMRs, getting hit by a car would be more likely than getting measles and passing it on to her unborn baby. My siblings and I all had the measles. Do you trust me now? We are alive. One In 500 cases of measles in the u.s. result in death, as opposed to thousands who die in car accidents. You need your facts straightened

This is referring to underdeveloped countries were there is malnourished children. In united states there is less then one death per year from measles and it is usually from immune suppressed people. I almost died of measles at age 7 (before vaccine existed). My mother lost classmates to diphtheria in first grade (before vaccine existed). My great-grandmother lost a son to tetanus/lockjaw right before his Bar Mitzvah (before there was vaccine). All he did was walk barefoot in sand and step on a broken shell…This is not a game! Listen to your M.D.’s advice — make sure everyone in your family is vaccinated.
