When speaking at a Chabad Lunch and Learn in South Beach, Florida, last week, member of the Israeli Knesset Tzipi Hotovely asked Shliach Rabbi Zev Katz to arrange a visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel.
Ms. Hotovely had the opportunity to visit the Ohel gravesite in Cambria Heights, Queens on Motzei Shabbos. She was accompanied by Rochi Berkowitz, 6th grade student of Beis Rivka school in Crown Heights.
Also joining in the visit were Mr. Aharon Pulver, Chairman of the Israel Independence Fund and Rabbi Avraham Berkowitz of Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters.
Ms. Hotovely, who is a member of Israel’s Likud party, sits on Israel’s Security and National Defense Committee, and is considered a “rising star” in the Knesset. She has recently returned from Belgium where she attended a meeting of NATO members.
Before entering the Ohel, Ms. Hotovely told Rochi Berkowitz about how she and her family paid a visit to the Rebbe in 1991, when she was 12 years old, to receive ‘dollars,’ and noted how meaningful that visit still is to her.
She shared afterwards how moved she was by the visit to the Ohel, and said that it was a very powerful and uplifiting experience. Ms. Hotovely also remarked how she always felt that the Rebbe was the one Jewish leader who was able to connect to all segments of the Jewish people, and had the ability to unite the Jewish people.
She said she hopes to bring back with her to the Knesset and to Israel, the Rebbe’s deep love for the Jewish people and a secure Israel.
