Imagine heading into Shabbos knowing the food is already taken care of – a full, delicious meal ready to be reheated and served, without the stress of shopping and cooking after a long week. For many single parents, that kind of relief is rare.
That’s exactly what THE KINDNESS HUB is setting out to change.
Following the energy and success of its first pop-up Hamantash Bake, THE KINDNESS HUB is launching its next initiative: THE BOX OF KINDNESS, a hands-on volunteer project providing gourmet Shabbos meals to 15+ single-parent families in the community.
“It’s been a wonderful surprise to see how enthusiastic people are about this idea. Past volunteers are eager for more regular opportunities, and others have shared that this is a much-needed initiative for our community,” says Sarah Yarmush, a Kindness Hub fan.
The goal is simple and powerful: to give hardworking single heads of households a much-needed break from their demanding schedules, and to give their families the experience of enjoying a beautifully prepared Shabbos meal, provided at no cost.
Just knowing there is a community that cares can be deeply heartwarming, offering a boost of energy and encouragement to keep going.
The initiative is designed to be carried out with sensitivity and dignity. Volunteers prepare and package the meals without knowing who the recipients are, ensuring families can receive support privately and respectfully.
Each family will receive a generous four-course dinner, including fish, soup, meat, a variety of side dishes, and dessert, all prepared with care and quality ingredients.
Preparation will take place over two days, bringing volunteers together in a vibrant, welcoming environment filled with energy, teamwork, and purpose. Meals will be delivered fresh on Thursday night, just in time for Shabbos.
At its core, this initiative reflects the mission of THE KINDNESS HUB: creating a space where people of all ages — especially teens and young adults — can come together through meaningful, hands-on acts of giving.
“Through cooking, creating, and contributing, participants don’t just help others,” says Goldie Avtzon, co-founder of The Kindness Hub. “They experience connection, purpose, and the joy of making a real difference.”
