He sits by his computer and chooses a weekly quota. Then he paces the floor, repeating the same 3 words over and over to himself. He does this for hours, perhaps days.. and finally—his face lights up, he runs to his Base Commander and salutes him. “I’m ready to be tested!”
Who is this boy, and what is going on?
About 2 months ago, Tzivos Hashem Headquarters launched the Tanya Baal Peh Birthday Present: Chayolim around the world will work as hard as they possibly can to learn lines of Tanya by heart to reach an army-wide goal of 110,000 lines.
Base Commanders and Parents got to work encouraging and helping their children chose quotas. At the headquarters, we watched the numbers go up. Rabbi Yerachmiel Bejaminson, Director of Tzivos Hashem, remembers, “Quotas were rolling in, chayolim were pledging unbelievable amounts of lines. Yet they weren’t empty pledges. Testers began marking the lines down, and the numbers are adding up.”
People are always amazed: how do we log lines from chayolim in Australia, Chicago and London- all over the world- accurately?
It’s tough stuff—made simple. The TBP Programming System, created in loving memory of Nosson Deitch OBM, is the incredible program that continuously tracks progress. Soldiers can log onto their accounts from any computer or kiosk and see every statistic: how many lines they’ve completed, how many they have left for their individual Yud Alef Nissan Goal, how many lines they will know by their next birthday- or better yet, by their Bar/ Bas Mitzva!
Asking Rabbi Mendy Schanowitz, Director of MyShliach, how he feels about the system, he commented, “One of the most powerful tools in this program is the reports—Parents, as Commanders, have special access to view other bases and peek at how they’re doing. To see each base contribute what they can, on their level is truly remarkable.”
How do you package and wrap up this present? Get excited. At the upcoming Yud Alef Nissan Rally, we’ll be giving the Rebbe a pan with the names and amounts of the chayolim who participated—totaling up to 110,000 lines!
May we be zoche to see our Rebbe with us at the rally, taking the pan from his chayolim!
Special thanks to the Base Commanders who train, lead and encourage our soldiers all the way through.
Chayolei Tzivos Hashem – a project of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch (Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky) and Tzivos Hashem (Rabbi Yerachmiel Bejaminson) developed in partnership with anash.com (Rabbi Shaya Smetana)- and Chabad schools worldwide and MyShliach for the children of Shluchim.
