By Rabbi Shea Hecht, Chairman of NCFJE
After many decades of the Jewish community in New York practicing the tradition of kaparos using live chickens, certain anti-Torah and anti-tradition forces tried to use the justice system to interfere with the observance.
In response to a request for an injunction, the Jewish community with the help of Mr. David Jaroslawicz ESQ. and Mr. Boruch Gottesman ESQ., provided legal framework to observe kaparos.
The judge’s ruling on Rosh Hashana morning denied the injunction but set a hearing for the case after Yom Tov.
The organizers of Kaparos have a strong feeling that these forces will interfere and harass our community during the practice of kaparos.
It is very important that we emphasize the quorum and the organized structure of the kaparos ritual. The anti-forces have strengthened their group and plan a big protest tonight.
In case you are engaged in an argument or are harassed, we urge you to step away and not respond and continue focusing on the mitzvah you came to do.
We want to thank our sponsors Mr. Yossi Popack and diamond mogul Mr. Morris Gad.
Please bear in mind the mitzvah of the Torah of Tzaar Baalie Chayim. In the process of shchita and process for Tzedaka, all rules of Department of agriculture of the State of New York will be followed.
We sincerely apologize for the shortage yesterday and we have ordered more chickens so here will be ample supply today.
Due to confusion, please kaporos see times below (we are encouraging everyone to use Beth Rivkah location):
1. Beth Rivkah parking lot on Montgomery St.: Monday 6:00 pm to Tuesday 3:00 am, with shchita starting at 9:00 pm.
2. Eastern Parkway in front of NCFJE: Monday 9:00 pm to Tuesday 6:00 am, with shchita starting at 10:00 pm.
