A Chasidic Jewish man was assaulted in an unprovoked attack early Tuesday morning in the heart of Crown Heights.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:40 am on Union Street between Kingston and Albany Avenues.
The victim, a visibly Chasidic 57-year old man, was walking on Union Street towards Kingston Avenue, when a black man who was jogging down the street suddenly lunged at the victim, he told COLlive.com.
The man “jumped me, while yelling and screaming and shouting obscenities,” the victim told COLlive. “He was clearly in a rage,” he said, and then attacked the victim, ripping his jacket.
The victim fought back, fending off his attacker, who then ran off down Union Street, fleeing towards Albany Avenue.
The attacker is described as about 35 years of age, wearing a black bandana and black t-shirt. He is seen in nearby surveillance footage as he walked toward the victim.
Police were called, and are investigating the incident.

Learn the laws first or you will wind up in prison with a very expensive defense bill and civil lawsuit.
You cannot just shoot somebody because they attack you–like it or not you must learn the local laws if you are going to carry a firearm. You stand to lose EVERYTHING if you mess up.
You must be able to articulate why you were in fear of losing your life or suffering severe bodily injury.
Also… if you carry a firearm, you must obtain separate concealed carry liability insurance to help with ball, attorney’s fees, defense, etc. It’s available in most states except NEW YORK DOESN’T ALLOW IT!!!

Because the system is backwards. I agree 1000% with carrying a firearm. The issue is that the laws and lawlessness are even moreso against the person who wants to go about living a peaceful existence. I do hope that once CCW is more common the criminals will think more than twice about attacking a seemingly easy target.

This is why you never threaten with a gun–pull it only if you need to use it.
If the victim was knocked to the ground and the potential was there for the attacker to take the weapon, it could be considered a justified self-defense shooting.
To pull out a gun and wave it or threaten with it goes against all concealed carry training. The gun is the last resort against an imminent threat of death or grave bodily harm.
