The Rabbinical Alliance of America – Igud HaRabbonim, a national rabbinic association with 950 members serving congregations and communities across the USA, is urging the City of New York to enact a daily Moment of Silence in all its public schools from pre-K through High School.
The alarming uptick of violent attacks against innocent citizens throughout the City of New York calls for immediate remedial action by those in positions of authority and responsibility for public safety, said Rabbi Yehoshua S. Hecht, Member Presidium of Rabbinical Alliance of America.
“For too long and with disastrous results, our public schools have failed our children in the education of ethical and moral behavior that is so vitally needed to curb the out-of-control violence and mass shootings and other outrages all too often perpetrated by misguided youth,” he said.
Rabbi Hecht said that the implementation of a Moment of Silence at schools will serve all segments of the population so as to assure that “all students have an awareness of a Creator – an eye that sees and an ear that hears – reminding all to live by a code of moral and civil conduct.”
He called on elected officials and Mayor Bill de Blasio to support the implementation of a Moment of Silence within the New York City public school system.
Rabbi Hecht noted that a Moment of Silence in the schools will assist to diminish the violence and hatred and “and thus help secure the safety and welfare of our children and adults.”
As reported on COLlive.com, the Florida House and Senate recently passed a law requiring a Moment of Silence in public schools across the Sunshine State. It is now waiting to be signed by Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis.
