This year Rosh Hashanah hits us earlier than usual. But between the back to school rush and unpacking from the country, there’s a way to make sure that when one of the most important days of the year descends upon us, we’ll be ready.
Inspired, a book now in its second printing, is a Rosh Hashanah Machzor guide published by Jewish Enrichment Press; A way for everyone to stay connected and be uplifted this holiday season.
Short and powerful pieces of wisdom give meaning to the different tefillos of the Rosh Hashanah machzor. Insights are paired with unique, full-color Jewish paintings by community artists. “Inspired is the ideal shul companion,” says Rabbi Chaim Dalfin, author.
The book features art from a talented lineup of both up-and-coming and established artists: Shoshannah Brombacher, Chana Laber, Rivka Seigel-Krinsky, Maayan Ora Russel, Mali Labkowsky, and Rivky Garelik. Their classic pieces add an extra layer of depth to the content.
Feedback for Inspired has been overwhelming. “I got this book for my Jewish professor and he was so touched,” said Meir G. from Monsey, New York. “This book is the perfect solution to hours of sitting in synagogue on Rosh Hashanah, adding layers of meaning to the prayers,” says Karen B. from Akron, Ohio. “This book is so gorgeous. Life gets busy and it’s so important to make time for spirituality,” says Chani D. from Los Angeles, California.
The book is a new edition of Rabbi Dalfin’s 1999 publication, then called Rosh Hashanah Davening. The idea behind this new edition was sparked one Rosh Hashanah, when Brocha Feiner (nee Dalfin), a busy mom, pulled it off the shelf to try and add meaning to the day.
“I’m a mom of four under four with little time for learning,” Brocha explains. “And every year I’ve relied on my father’s book to make Rosh Hashanah feel meaningful.” When the yom tov ended, Brocha knew she wanted to bring that kind of inspiration to others in an updated and current way. It took a conversation with editor and designer Chava Witkes, and Inspired was born.
“Learning has always been important to me,” says Chava Witkes, also a mom of three. “But these days I don’t have the time or headspace for anything too long or too deep.” Inspired is the perfect balance of content and delivery.
Small enough to bring along wherever you’ll be this year, a few copies of Inspired can also be thrown into a suitcase for the perfect Rosh Hashanah gift. So that not only you, but everyone around you can feel the inspiration too.
