R’ Menachem (Manny) Dworcan, a pillar of the Lubavitch community in South Africa, passed away Shabbos afternoon, 13 Elul, 5781.
He was 75 and passed away from complications from Covid.
R’ Dworcan was a founding member of the Lubavitch community in South Africa and a beloved pillar of the Johannesburg community.
A beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, he was known as an Emesdik Yid who only wanted to do Mitzvos perfectly.
An exemplary Machnis Orech who hosted many in his home, he was a great baal tzedakah who did much chesed in a quiet manner, which most did not know about.
He was a founding member and lifelong Committee Member of Torah Academy Day School in South Africa.
He also established and ran the Chassidim Shul Gemach – giving out loans to all who needed, and was a Committee Member of Chassidim Shul and then Torah Academy Shul.
R’ Dworcan established a Sefer Torah Gemach to ensure that every Chabad House which opened in South Africa would have a Sefer Torah.
An activist in Israel as well, he purchased the House of Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel in Chevron so that it wouldn’t fall into Arab hands.
He is survived by his wife, Marion (Miriam) Dworcan, and children, Ari (and Raizy) Dworcan – Montreal, Canada; Dani Dworcan – Krugersdorp, South Africa; Gabi Wineberg – Johannesburg, South Africa; Estie (and Boruch) Talberg – Ramat Bet Shemesh, Israel; Sarah (and Tzvi) Schechtman – West Bloomfield, Michigan; Levi (and Sarah) Dworcan – Lauderhill, Florida; Mingy Dworcan – Brooklyn, New York and Yossi (and Sarah) Dworcan – Palm Beach, Florida.

I can still hear his voice calling us boys in ‘mincha, mincha, mincha boys’.
Always there for our family. There’s a palpable loss in this world

Manny was such a kind and generous man. A father figure to all of us at Chassidim shul and a foundation a real briach hatichon for the entire South African Jewish community
He is loved and respected by every one who knew him.
May HaShem comfort his beautiful and wonderful family. Auntie Marian And the amazing children that they both raised.
We are all poorer for his loss. May his memory and maassim tovim bring Moshiach now
We have lost a Tzadik. That is all.
Manny was a giant in ways most of us will never know as such was his conduct. May the Dworcan family only know of simchas and find the strength at this difficult time.
An emese chossid

Our hearts are broken for and with you. I can still hear Uncle Manny call
” mincha, mincha!” every Shabbos afternoon in my parents home where we davened. Together with Aunty Marion, Uncle Manny built a warm Toradike home, where everyone felt welcome.
May Hashem give you koach

Many stories will emerge and many of those unknown will not, of this legend of a man. We are heartbroken. ZT”L
R MANNY was a real mench and pillar of the Chassidim shul of old where I grew up in Yoeville under Rabbi Lipskar sheyichye
Fond memories of him and his always open house in Observatory.
Blessings to the Dworcan family, may Hashem bring comfort !!
May he be a meilitz yotzer for Klal Yisroel !!
This is absolute heartbreak. I remember walking with my cousin Shloimy, and Levi Dworcan one Shabbos from the Torah Academy School to the Dworcans. I was petrified because of the unrest in South Africa. I remember the oasis of serenity in the Dworcan home. May you all be comforted.
Growing up with you was a treat , being in your home as a child was a delight…. you hold a special place in my heart ❤️ thank you for the lessons you taught us just by being you… ❤️ I’m sure you’ll go up to Shomayim and in your gentle way convince the Aibishter to make this worth a better place …
❤️
Thank you
Love Neomi
