Over 500 people enjoyed a fun filled and inspiring show of Jewish pride at Chabad of Hong Kong’s 28th giant Menorah lighting in Chater Garden.
Honored with saying the blessings and lighting the candles were Consul General of Israel Sagi Karni and Mr. Rafael Aharoni.
Head Shliach Rabbi Mordechai Avtzon welcomed the guests and emphasized in his remarks the power the light has to chase away darkness.
The large crowd was treated to latkes and donuts and a carnival that included fun activities for the children and dreidel mascots posing for photographs and dancing to Jewish music by the AMS Marching Band.
Running the carnival were Lifshy Ajzenszmidt, the Avtzon sisters, Doreen Dedri, Michael Feldman, Laurian Greenstein, Vered Hadad, Allsion Heiliczer, Josh Heiliczer, Dimitri Mongeot, Emily Nagar, Ofir Razon, Lior Sade, Melvin Taieb and Rubin Verebes.
Security was provided by the Hong Kong Police Force, Gershon Bar Raza and members of the CSC – Community Security Council.
A highlight at the celebration was an original play titled “Blast from the Past” which had Yehuda HaMaccabee visiting the modern day world. It starred stage and film actor Howard Paley and Aviv Lavi.
