Over 200 people enjoyed JOURNEYS – Chabad of China’s annual evening of celebration and entertainment which took place last Thursday at the Aberdeen Marina Club in Hong Kong.
“Wherever you are in life – physically, spiritually and emotionally, Chabad is there to assist you on your journey,” stated the Head Shliach Rabbi Mordechai Avtzon.
Attended by Shluchim and Shluchos from throughout East Asia, the evening celebrated the “home away from home” Chabad offers in China, Vietnam, Japan and Korea.
A testimony to Chabad’s open door policy was the keynote address by Monique Sara Levy, who met Chabad while working as a project manager on one of the biggest developments on the Cotai Strip.
The Italian born Levy told of her upbringing “in a very watered-down” Jewish home, losing her husband and then relocating to China with her two sons, Gillo and Jonathan.
“Chabad took care of my children and me for the two wonderful years that we lived in Hong Kong,” said Levy who flew in from Tel Aviv to attend the event.
“Chabad inspired us then and will inspire us for the rest of our lives. Without a doubt, meeting Chabad has been a turning point for me, my children and, B’ezrat Hashem one day, my grandchildren.”
A most unique challah board made of rice and crafted in Vietnam was presented to the two honorees Andre Rofe (Etz Chaim Award) and Isaac Kamhin (Hineni Award).
Chabad of Shenzhen, directed by Rabbi Sholem Ber Chazan, made a presentation to its supporter Serge Choukroun.
Highlights of the evening included the launch of the Chabad of Asia Travel Guide and a specially choreographed dance performance.

A real big thank you goes to Rabbi kotlarsky for all that he did from the beginning (and before) of Chabad from Hong Kong and in general for the shluchim in far (“close”) east.
I personally had to do with the Rabbi many times from close up and can say with certainty that if not for his true concern for every single place in this region our country would look much different!
Thank you again and much success in the upcoming convention
