The North County Chabad Center in Yorba Linda, California celebrated Chanukah with a unique event at the Yorba Linda Cultural Arts Center Film.
Following a Menorah lighting, a crowd filled the arts center to watch the screening of the documentary “The Star of Jacob” about the life of Dr. Jacob Eisenbach.
Eisenbach, a 98-year-old Holocaust survivor, was called “the treasure of our community,” by Shlucha Naomi Blesofsky who emceed the event.
The evening opened with a Menorah lighting conducted by Rabbi David Eliezrie, city council members and Mayor Peggy Huang, former Mayor Dr. Beth Haney and Mayor Pro Tem, Carlos Rodriguez.
Inside the new theater, a performance of the song, “From Jacob,” written by Michel Klein was performed by Shliach Rabbi Levi Blesofsky and recent Bar Mitzvah student, Nathaniel Sprague.
The moving documentary is the history of Dr. Eisenbach, a retired dentist, and the legacy he would like to share with the world of kindness and gratitude.
After the film, Professor Clifford Lester, interviewed Dr. Eisenbach, asking him what his most important goal and philosophy in life was.
“How great and holy the Torah is,” he replied. “This is what I wanted to learn, through a friend Mrs. Mary Cramer. She was instrumental in my becoming a member of the Chabad movement. Rabbi Eliezrie came to visit with me and we had very exciting and inspirational discussions. I knew that this is the place I want to be. This happened 18 years ago, I am still a member of Chabad, and I will be as long as I live.”
