Over one hundred people joined for the first event hosted by the new Shluchim in Turks & Caicos, a public Menorah lighting on the tropical island.
The event was organized by Rabbi Shmulik and Chaya Berkowitz, who moved out to establish the new Chabad Center on the island only a few days before.
Partcipants enjoyed doughnuts, latkes, and drinks, while doing Chanukah-themed crafts and listening to Jewish music.
The new Shluchim have organized a series of events for the Chanukah holiday, including parties and Menorah lightings in hotels and homes on the island.
The Chanukah events are just the first of many which the new Shluchim plan for the Islands.
The new Chabad Center will serve the religious needs of the small Jewish community as well as vacation homeowners and visitors to the series of Islands which make up Turks and Caicos, with a base in the main Island of Provo as well as in Grand Turk, where many cruise ships dock every year.
The Berkowitzes will be providing Minyanim, Shabbos meals and holiday programs, and plan to offer Kashering services and Kosher food packages in the coming weeks, delivered to villas or hotels.
