A beautiful two-story building in Florida, built in the early 1920’s and registered by the city of Hollywood as “historic,” went through a major transformation from a Methodist Temple to being used as a synagogue.
Chabad of Northeast Hollywood has recently purchased the location on Harrison Street using it for its Shul of the Lakes, a vibrant congregation founded 7 years ago.
“We’ve been trying to buy this building for 5 years,” the Director Rabbi Mendy Tennenhaus told COLlive.com. “It was the only property in our area that was suitable for a shul.”
A lead gift towards the purchase was given by philanthropists Moises & Lillian Tabacinic, with the generous assistance of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, and the Sam Goldberg Trust.
Additional funds are being raised to remodel the building.
Tennenhaus said that ever since their move, in the end of the 5771 year, the new chapter of the Shul is attracting new people every week.
“People are very receptive and excited,” he said. “Being surrounded by homes encourages people to come to the Shul and get involved.”
The month of Tishrei was jam-packed with services and activities, with over 120 children participating at one time for some of the junior services.
Tennenhaus and his wife Endi also run the Chai Tots Preschool in Hallandale Beach, and Camp Gan Israel of South Broward, with campuses in Hollywood and Hallandale Beach.
Keep up the great work!!!

Freezing in Toronto!!.
People coming to chabad of the lakes love Endi, ( I can attest to that) she is the warmest, most hospitable person ever. It was just hard to pronounce “Nechama Dina”so we shortened it . But, never think she short changes us. She is the most loved Pre school Director( not teacher) running a preschool of 4 classes with a waiting list of 100 kids
what a huge lawn!!!! perfect for so many events!!!
Did anyone realize Endy = Mendy-the letter “em”
