NYPD Deputy Inspector Richie Taylor is being promoted to Full Inspector in an NYPD ceremony next week.
Last year, Taylor made history upon his promotion to Deputy Inspector as the highest-ranking yarmulka-wearing officer in NYPD history.
Taylor was personally informed of his promotion by Police Commissioner Dermot Shea at a reception in Manhattan.
Taylor, who lives in Flatbush, is currently the Commanding Officer of Community Affairs for Chief Jeffrey Maddrey.
As an Orthodox Jew, Deputy Inspector Taylor understands the many different Jewish communities throughout the city, and is familiar with the nuances and different needs relating to each one.
He has served in various precincts in the NYPD and served in the Office of the Chief of Community Affairs at One Police Plaza as a Sergeant.
“Deputy inspector Richie Taylor is an excellent crime fighter while an outstanding community person,” said Devorah Halberstam, Honorary Commissioner of the NYPD. “He is a sterling representative of the Jewish/orthodox community and is sensitive to the diverse peoples in New York City. I am so proud to have mentored Richie since he joined the NYPD. I congratulate him and bless him to go from strength to strength as he moves ahead in his career, always mindful of his Jewish identity.”
Newly appointed Inspector Taylor has a close relationship with Crown Heights, as well as other Jewish communities.
