Why isn’t there a booklet on Gemoroh? #thatsynoonelikesu

Question 19
June 19, 2012 8:26 pm

I think the source is a Gemora, which says that a man who has two paths to go somewhere,

1st, near the seashore where woman wash laundry – their elbows or toes sometimes get exposed.
and a 2nd regular path.

one who Rch”l chooses the first is called a “Rasha”.
seems like the decision is, that a theme park isn’t considered a crucial route.

come on, be real!
June 19, 2012 6:39 pm

yes for our own kids this is perfect, but for many mosdos of shluchim i dont think this is realistic. Take for example questions 1, 2 and 3. How many shluchim can really implement them in their camps with not-yet from kids? come on!

The Rebbe on Tznius
June 19, 2012 11:10 am

The rebbe on Tznius…
… על פי שולחן ערוך מבת ג’ ויום אחד כבר צריכה להתנהג בצניעות וק”ו לבת עשר ויותר…
אבל שלא להכביד עול… ולדבר בדרכי נועם.
(Quote from Lekutei Sichos vol.18 pg. 448)

no need to add.. this says it all!

He who wants NON-Chalav Israel milk will also want to compromise everything else
June 19, 2012 10:08 am

It’s not a valid argument to say that Chalav Akum or STAM is merely what they are arguing about. They want to find every leniency and loophole in order NOT TO OBEY THE TORAH. They don’t take on any of the mitzvot and don’t care and don’t have a proper connection. Kabbalat Ohl means keeping traditional Judaism. The Sages of Israel said that it is treif and makes impure the mind. What more does a conscientious person need before they will take on Chalav Israel.

see the Rebbe’s sensitivity- while standing for halocha! 33 and 47 and whoever else… it doesn’t seem like her voice was heard by anyone else… thus i’m sure you will now agree with what the rabbonim wrote In Question # 3. (Is there any difference if – it is one girl alone or it is a group of girls- singing in front of a man?) “While there is a minority view that makes a distinction between a single girl singing and a group of girls singing, the general consensus in halacha is that no difference exists if it’s one girl… Read more »

This is an issue which has been discussed in various halachic publications, and there are many prominent poskim on both sides of the issues, as well as those who claim American cows are not subject to the procedures, and the Cholov Yisrael products produced by European companies come from cows who have had the procedure done. Rabbi Azdoba - in Shaalo #2
June 19, 2012 9:24 am

I overheard Rabbi Azdoba clarify a point in question #2 which i think all should know! The rebbe wrote that tznius starts from the age of 3! which stands true l’gabei clothing etc. (and for sure yichud, and swiming) however regarding singing they were meikel till age of five, and some as far as under 11 yrs old. -That is only for singing as can be seen in question #9… (though the rebbe’s once sent a message very politly to a girl singing by kos shel brocha, to clap instead! she doesn’t seem over 5.. brought in the end of… Read more »

treif milk
June 19, 2012 8:19 am

As far as i remember, a new issuue arises with chalav stam.
they are not careful with injections into cow, which in certain places (veshet etc.) Render it treif, thus, the milk will be assur as well!
So its a deeper issue then just a chshash of cholov gamal

cheering
June 19, 2012 7:23 am

many camp songs are cheers rather than beautiful songs with tunes. would it be acceptable to cheer on the bus with a male bus driver (whos focus is the road not the hoarse voices of the counselors)

this booklet, although not officialy, is directed at girls. what about boys?

thank you, and now one for the boys

tznius is not only clothes!
June 18, 2012 11:48 pm

being modest does not just apply to clothing- as chassidim- the way we talk -walk- act is all tznius- truthfully it would be preferable to hire women drivers for girls’ schools! that way there would be no problems with the singing! we want to keep our kids safe and yet when our Rabbonim tell us what the holy sefer Torah says about keeping them safe we complain?!

June 18, 2012 11:30 pm

Reb Moshe didn’t apply the heter from pas palter. Pas akum is only assure bed it will cause taaruvos with the goyim. I.E. having meals together with goyim. If I’m not mistaken thats also the reasoning behind bishul akum. Since we go to stores, and shops and bakeries in PUBLIC, that reason doesn’t apply to pas palter. Reb Moshe’s chiddush regarding chalav STAM was the reliance of the govt. and ppl afraid of losing their license or FDA certification if they falsify the ingredients without writing it. Whether or not you use this heter ( if ur any kind of… Read more »

morahs singing in front of fathers
June 18, 2012 11:02 pm

Dear hanhola and morahs. I am not a posek but I don’t think there is any heter to sing in front of fathers by a graduation. My children do not go to lubavitcher yeshivos, in their school fathers only come to functions if there is a Rebbe – not Morahs. I was shocked to hear that this week a family member of mine went to a graduation in a Lubavitcher mosed in Crown Heights and had to leave when he realized that the morah was going to sing. Be chassidim just like the beginning of this article says “we strive… Read more »

Sir 33,
regarding your Heter of singing together: do some research-

was a דעת יחיד the sridei eish, for survives of the holocaust right after WW2 only!

ALL Poskim wen’t against, and that opinion didn’t survive in ANY Rulings-
(not lubavich, not litvish, Not chasidish, even not Modern Orthodox- /// if מיהו יהודי would consider conservative “Jewish” ח”ו then ur in business…

sorry for any sarcasm-

I just can’s take people giving opinions in halacha, as if they looked into it…
Try harder next time.

Mr. 33… If you need s/o to explain … They meant: clothed as needed based on case… Meaning in your scenario this would not apply totally. Ps there is an inyan of tznius for men, which is brought in Shulchan oruch and copied into Kitzur Shulchan Oruch: one must envision hashem over him, and with that humility in mind, leave covered what ever isn’t needed to uncover EVEN WHILE IN THE BEIS HAKISAY. same applies to girls- AND BOYS TOO- while swimming ps. Hashem exists there too – just chose to conceal himself more, therefore different levels and standards in… Read more »

CHALAV STAM
June 18, 2012 9:10 pm

The Name cholov Stam was invented after R’ Moshe’s Teshuva – we do not differentiate!

See our rebbe’s take on Cholov Akum (… and stam)

http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=15848&st=&pgnum=34

See there: it brings Sefikos in emuna..
B’derech Hatzachus…. as seen in your comment… 😉 sorry no offends

To #34
June 18, 2012 9:06 pm

Don’t be irritated…
Chasidim never made a difference between them, and for practical purposes neither did Misnagdim.

Untill Reb Moshe Wrote his Famous Heter, FOR HOSPITALS -and when one can’t get חלב ישראל (which was twarted and abused to “apply” to every litvish home…)

His Yesod was to apply the heter of Pas Palter to manufactured milk. and to add the concept of Mirtas B/c of the government.

For us Lubavitcher, which our parents lost their Lives in Siberia over this- Yes there is no difference between them..

to 33
June 18, 2012 9:03 pm

Im sorry but some things are just common sense… it doesn’t take a genius to figure out they dont expect girls to swim fully clothed.

chalav akum
June 18, 2012 8:37 pm

there is no such thing as Kosher Chalav Akum

Its called CHALAV STAM and theres a huge difference…

that error is irritating bc it implies that people eating chalav stam (acceptable according to some opinions) are eating Chalav Akum(forbidden according to all)

exposing parts of body for swimming!?
June 18, 2012 8:34 pm

That is a very ambiguos answer – “expose those parts that are necessary for swimming, reasonably?” so if in an all girls camp, with only girl counselors, lifesavers etc? the girls can wear regular bathing suits? Or does that mean they dont have to wear socks but have to be fully clothed? after reading that, i dont blame the girl for being confused. also, there ARE heterim for girls singing in groups in front of men – I dont know why they need to make girls feel so pressured and uncomfortable that they are doing something that is forbidden. Obvoiusly,… Read more »

The title is meant to grab the readers attention. In the media it doesn’t necessarily have to do much with the content. Start to notice that titles are usually controversial or strange.. I must add collive is very good at this. Summer guide sounds boring, so they wrote tznius booklet, now it sounds juicy!

June 18, 2012 8:13 pm

Great booklet, but don’t you think this booklet should be given to the directors too? Most of the scenarios are because the directors put them into that situation.

Tznius Booklet ??
June 18, 2012 7:22 pm

After reading the article more than once, and having read through numerous comments, there was finally one comment that pointed out that the booklet has nothing to do with tznius. Believe it or not, the article was titled “Tznius Booklet adds questions…”- they called it a TZNIUS booklet! And not one halacha is directly tznius! (maybe the bathing suit one, but still, to call it a tznius booklet?) I don’t know if it’s a sub-conscious cry to have such a thing about tznius, or if people automatically link halacha with tznius… Anyway, that blew me away. I’m still trying to… Read more »

if you didn’t read clearly, it was a suggestion for in middle of the ride if girls feel they must,

June 18, 2012 3:44 pm

In many states it is against the law to drive while wearing ear plugs. I would check with the local DMV before I would ever encourage anyone to wear ear plugs while driving. If you do drive, I am sure that you realize how important it is to use hearing while driving.

June 18, 2012 2:26 pm

Why call it “Tznius Booklet” if the cover-page calls it “Summer Guide”
The reason behind that is simple…
the general concept was so over chewed that its hard to get through that title to girls

Chabad House Day Camps
June 18, 2012 2:22 pm

I understand the Halachas but in reality I think and know (from experience and BH they were good ones) the camps are not so strict in alot of areas spoken about especially trips and letting the campers eat the food they bring from home in reference to opening the trief food for them. It is a sticky situation. The frum girls who are counslers learned one thing and the Chabad House Shluchim tell them to do another with much lenience.

June 18, 2012 1:43 pm

dont seem to see the problem.

What, chabad is against halacha??!! It’s actually about time rabbonim unite for a cause of clear halacha that many are starting to create gray lines and causing confusion amongst the public. I hope a self-respecting lubavitcher is frum.
