Parents, siblings and staff joined the students of Darchei Menachem school Sunday for their annual Recognition and Awards Ceremony.
During the event, each student received an award in recognition for his achievements this year. Rabbi Druin, principal of the Jewish Academy of Suffolk County and father of Chananel who is graduating from 8th grade, addressed the crowd.
He spoke about how in today’s day and age, the schools have to take on a bigger role of not just ensuring that the students learn, but that they are also instilled with a strong foundation of Yiddishkeit. This is something that Darchai Menachem has done for his son, he explained.
R’ Marozov’s Mesivta class had their own awards ceremony and BBQ in Prospect Park.
Rabbi Yossi Jacobson, international speaker and Rabbi of Bais Shmuel Chabad congregation in Crown Heights, was not able to attend the awards ceremony, but he sent the following message of thanks:
As parents, we never stop worrying about our children. But for the past nine months, I had to worry about my twelve year old son, Mendel, a bit less. This year, I was lucky enough to know that my child is in a school that dedicates an enormous amount of resources to his personal success. I know that every day my son walks into a Yeshiva where there is an entire faculty that not only knows his name, but knows Mendel as an individual. They know his gifts and challenges and tailor their every lesson and conversation to bring out my Mendel’s greatest potential. That is the type of school Darchai Menachem is.
As my son heads towards his Bar Mitzvah, I know that Mendel was taught lessons that not only ensure he knows the material covered, but has given him the critical skills he needs to be a lifelong learner. In a school that focuses on the whole child, I know that he was taught to be an effective communicator, to be a team player, and to embrace challenges rather than shy away from them.
As the year closes, it is important to express our appreciation to those who played such enormous roles in our children’s life this year. With that, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to the entire team at Darchai Menachem for being model educators who dedicates their heart and soul, day and night, to bringing out the best in every student. Rabbi Bension has built a staff that not only have the training and technique required of master educators, but have the warmth and passion to love our children even at their most challenging moments. Through his leadership, Rabbi Bension has built a school that is a living, evolving organism that is not afraid to embrace the latest research and technology to ensure our children are given the very best education possible.
Yeshiva Darchai Menachem is a vital Crown Heights institution, and I am so grateful that I got to witness it firsthand.

If there weren’t pictures I wouldn’t believe it. Young students who love their school and their teachers in our community!
I hope that more parents will realize the value of their children’s teachers and will acknowledge them for how hard they work. Teaching is a extremely under-appreciated art and it is perhaps the most important thing that affects our lives. Rabbi Jacobson showed leadership in expressing his gratitude on a public platform.
There is hope.
