The first case of coronavirus in New York City was confirmed on Sunday to be a woman in her late 30s who recently traveled to Iran, a state official said, NY Post reported.
Governor Cuomo released a statement on Sunday night announcing the first case in the state.
The patient is a woman in her late thirties who lives in Manhattan, who recently traveled to Iran. She is isolated in her home under close monitoring.
Despite the state’s first case of the deadly virus, Cuomo insisted, “There is no cause for surprise — this was expected.”
Mayor de Blasio said, “From the beginning, we have said it was a matter of when, not if there would be a positive case of coronavirus in New York. Now our first case has been confirmed. Our health authorities have been in a state of high alert for weeks, and are fully prepared to respond. We will continue to ensure New Yorkers have the facts and resources they need to protect themselves.”
As of late Sunday, there were 76 confirmed cases of coronavirus, known as COVID-19, across the US.
The news comes as Deblasio announced that New Yorkers will soon be able to test for COVID-19 here in New York City, which will significantly reduce the amount of waiting time to find out whether someone has the virus.
“Today, the FDA approved our application to develop our own test for the Coronavirus,” Deblasio said in a statement.
“That is not the only good news: after asking the CDC for weeks, they have finally sent us new kits that will allow us to run the CDC’s test locally. This means we will soon, within the coming week, have the ability to get results back in a matter of hours, not days. Quick detection is vital to stopping the spread of the virus, and this development will help the experts do their job to protect New Yorkers.”
The good news is she is a healthcare worker and had awareness hopefully before it became too contagious. In addition, she did not take public transportation. Lets pray for the safety of all
i am currently in Milan which has a higher risk of corona then the Usa and this is certainly not the deadly virus that the media is making it out to be. for a healthy young person, the virus is not dangerous, but for someone who is older or with a weakened immune system it may be. that is why those who unfortunately r”l passed away from corona were all old or with very low immune systems or weren’t healthy.
stay calm, carry on and Daven for the Geulah

Too many people are blowing this way out of proportion.
Yes we should take precautions, but to stay home from work and stop living your life, is not something this calls for, in my not so humble, opinion.
