Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is moving to the left because she is positioning herself as a Democratic candidate in the U.S. Presidential elections of 2020, her Republican rival told residents of Crown Heights.
Chele Farley, who is running on the Republican, Conservative and Reform ticket, said Gillibrand supported the Iran Nuclear Deal and wouldn’t support legislation to outlaw BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) against Israel.
Farley came to Crown Heights for a meet and greet with Jewish residents on Wednesday, August 1, organized by Yossi Garelik and hosted by Yossi and Chana Hackner.
Among the people in attendance were Zaki Tamir and Rabbi Eli Cohen of the Crown Heights Jewish Council, Oholei Torah principal Rabbi Hershel Lustig, activist Yaacov Behrman, and Dafna Shaked, Director of All My Children.
The evening discussion started with how a New York Republican can win a US Senate race. One key advantage is the turnout for a non-Presidential year, she said, adding that the Jewish community is a key swing voting bloc in this election and the stakes could not be higher.
She also expressed her support for the yeshivas, including the importance of helping parents have more control over their children’s education. They discussed how vouchers and federal tax credits could help alleviate the expense of private education.
Farley said she hopes that the Republican National Committee will invest in her effort to unseat the incumbent. She said she plans further campaign visits to Crown Heights over the next couple of months and hopes that the community will turn out in big numbers if President Donald Trump will come to New York to campaign for her.
Farley also discussed her trip to Israel in May and her support of moving US Embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing the city as Israel’s capital, a move by President Trump that was received with wide jubilation in Israel and the frum Jewish community aboard.
The participants were encouraged by Farley’s message which is aligned with the Crown Heights community, one participant commented. They ended the discussion with ways they could be helpful in getting the vote out in their community.
She said she hopes that the large Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn will turn out in big numbers and be a key voting block to get her to victory. Election Day is November 6, 2018.

I’m anti republican because they like it when the government handles things related to religion/race. I’m anti democrat because they like it when the government handles things related to money. I’m anti Trump because he thinks he is the best at handling everything (therefore was originally democrat). I’m pro libertarian- closer to the original Republican ideals, and very much the opposite of Trump. The government is not a friend and it would be best if their sole job would be making sure that people don’t murder and steal, and protecting our borders. I don’t like any program run by the… Read more »
The orthodox community voted for Trump. Especially now after moving the embassy, rubashkin, the greatest support Israel has ever had in the UN, the US pulling out of the Human Rights Council etc. etc. more people are going to realize that it’s time for us Jews to vote Republican.
Here in Boro park we will all be voting republican. We must defeat the anti Torah lefty agenda. Trump 2020
The men in CH have failed in organizing and inspiring others to vote to their poor leadership. The women, who organize in greater numbers should take the helm and do the following: 1) Create a website showing the electoral numbers 2) Hold voting drives to get show how easy it is to vote 3) Show the election results which show how elections are 4) Accountability – Demand new elections for CH community council with conflicts of interests for those who are recipients of public funds 5) Demand public funds be spent on security cameras to keep your kids safe from… Read more »
When she represented an upstate district she pretended to support our G-d-given unalienable right to keep and bear arms; the moment she no longer needed those votes she revealed her true self, a would-be dictator and tyrant who spits on the bill of rights.
NY is alot more pro Trump than the media portrays.
If he makes a rally in NY it will be packed and she’s going to win.
Thank you rabbi garelik for arranging this.
First with you’re amazing community and shul, and now to Washington, vote FARLEY!!!!
Really. So what’s your definition of “a great job”? She’s, among other things, called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be abolished – i.e., anyone can just waltz into the country, no checks on whether they’re criminals. As if New York doesn’t have enough of a criminal element already. And yes, the legislative branch is meant to be a check on the executive branch. That doesn’t mean that if the current president supports Israel, then we need congresspeople who oppose it (because her political party now does so). It doesn’t mean threatening, as Gillibrand has done, that if the president… Read more »
She’s not been out friend. And she opposers Trump who had been the best president we’ve had in years.
Republicans in general have more values in line with Torah values.
I’m a from woman and have been voting Republican .
Just as it was last election:
https://collive.com/show_news.rtx?id=47986
Which means I will be voting for Chele Farley.
If someone doesn’t care, don’t vote or vote for Gilibrand.
Want the best for America’s economy and security: Vote for Farley.
Want to undermine our country: Vote for Gilibrand.
Couldn’t care less about the country, the community, or anything else: Stay home like you always did till now.
To #8: She’s doing a great job opposing a president who’s trying to strengthen the US and Israel against their enemies. Go vote for her! She represents YOU, not New York.
To #9: Gillibrand isn’t a check, she’s trying to stop all the progress being made to fix our economy from the disastrous eight years and weaken our security. Apparently that’s your kind of “accountability”.
or S. Sanders to compaign with her. Possibly all of them at different events on the campaign trail. Any or all of them would likely be helpful. She seems very good.
Everyone – wake up! You must get out and vote for her. Make sure KG isn’t anywhere near our government!
Get lost you russian trolls, and stop interfering with our elections.
Crown Heights Jews actually vote in higher numbers then regular residents of NYC, that doesn’t mean there isn’t work to do but its important to not also be so condemning. In general in NYC there’s terrible voter turnout but if we can boast our numbers by even 15% we would be considered serious players. Mrs Farley seems like a great person and I think she may end up embarrassing Traitor Gillibrand by making this a close race…
This President must be held accountable. The constitutional duty of the House of Representatives is to be a check on the Executive. Senator Gillibrand has been check.
Will Iy’h be voting for to re-elect Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. She is doing a great job representing the great state of New York, in the United States Senate.
If they only started to vote they could accomplish so much and get the politicians to listen to them in so many areas since their vote would then mean something and that would give an incentive to elected officials to heed their voice.
I hope she’s right about that.
I suspect she isn’t.
I know she wasn’t till now. Does the average CH resident vote?
You don’t vote = you don’t care about Crown Heights.
Can’t be simpler.
Do something for a change, don’t whine or complain, that’ll get us nowhere.
If you’re too lazy to vote, ADMIT IT. Don’t make believe you have “good” reasons not to vote. There are none.
“It doesn’t matter”, of course it doesn’t because no one in CH voted till now so we’re a joke.
We could change that THIS TIME!
Don’t be lazy. DO YOU CARE ABOUT THE COMMUNITY?
Pick yourself up and VOTE!
MOST OF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE SO TILL NOW AND LOOK AT THE CONSEQUENCES!
