The Cohen family of Bnei Brak were in the news this week, after an electrical fire started an uncontrollable blaze in their home. The fire destroyed everything they owned, and rendered the home completely unlivable.
They have been offered a place to stay, where the parents and 7 children are reportedly sleeping in one room. They will remain there indefinitely, until they can afford another place to rent. It could take months to get to that point. Once they have a new home, they will need to replace their basic belongings, such as clothing, appliances, furniture. It is unclear how they will make it through Purim & Pesach with no material possessions to their name.
The family’s current situation is not livable by any standard. An emergency fund has been started in hopes of getting them to a space of their own to live, until their previous apartment has been repaired. Donations to the fund will also feed and clothe them until they have returned to some sense of normalcy.
The Cohens are watching the fund’s progress closely, praying that strangers will open their hearts, and give them a chance at a normal life.
